Almost incredibly, Owen Sound Minor Soccer is staging a series of rep team tryouts for next year already.
Next year, in terms of minor soccer, seems such a long way away, but this is the mode of operation that Owen Sound Minor Soccer has adopted.
And based on what I see & hear, it’s apparent the local Minor Soccer Program is flourishing in terms of numbers and in terms of successful rep team entries
A big part of the success for Owen Sound Minor Soccer Rep teams is being attributed to the program’s Head Coach, Keith Mason.
Mason, who is based out of Guelph, is an enthusiastic teacher for the youngsters, but moreso, he is a valuable mentor for the various parents/volunteers who serve as coaches in the Owen Sound Minor Soccer system.
Mason stresses preparation for practice is the fundamental building block for a successful soccer coach, and from that preparation all other aspects in terms of coaching, game plans and strategy evolve.
Furthermore, by implementing a system-wide blueprint, and implementing it early, needless repetition is avoided through the years, plus, by sticking to the program, there’s little chance of players learning one way to play at one age division, then a year or so later receive instruction to play in a totally different manner.
