Hockey season is underway, well underway in certain circles.
I see it in the e-mails from various Minor Hockey organizations, several teams already participating in tournaments.
The first major Owen Sound Minor Hockey Tournament is approaching, set for September 23rd-25th.
The Owen Sound Greys played their second home game of the season last night, dropping a hard fought 4-2 decision to the Stratford Cullitons in Midwestern Junior Hockey League play.
And, the Ontario Hockey League Champion Owen Sound Attack play their final home exhibition game tonight when they host the St Mike’s Majors.
The Attack are 1 & 2 in the pre-season and with this being my first opportunity to see a game since the Memorial Cup, I’m eager to get a look-see at the candidates vying for a spot with the Owen Sound club.
The OHL’s regular season begins Wednesday when the Attack host the Plymouth Whalers.
Game time tonight is 7 pm at the J.D. McArthur Arena
One other hockey note on the horizon, the 2011 Rec Centre Hockey Challenge, presented by Bruce Power, is Saturday at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.
The Rec Centre All Stars meet the Conservative All Stars in game that serves as a fundraiser for the rapidly developing Rec Complex in Owen Sound.
Minor Hockey, the Greys, the Attack & the Rec Centre Challenge; it’s hockey season in the city & region.
I’m Fred Wallace
