The 2011 Canadian Men’s Fastball Championship wrapped up Sunday afternoon at Duncan McLellan Park in Owen Sound.
As you can imagine, based on an 8 day marathon with heightening drama at each step along the road, there’s a lot to talk about.
In the days ahead, we’ll discuss a variety of topics that emerged from the Canadian Championship, but for today, we want to focus on the winners.
On the field, the K.W. Hallman Twins took the championship, beating West Side Charlie’s from Newfoundland-Labrador in the finale by a 4-3 score.
Truly, it was a great game, with Dale Levy giving the Twins a 2-0 lead early, West Side Charlie’s coming back with back to back home runs to take a 3-2 lead and then watching K.W. regroup to claim the title.
The Championship for the Twins is remarkable in that they are now back to back champions and did it by emerging from a dreadful 0 & 4 start, finishing last in the round robin and then running the table with 6 straight victories down the stretch.
The other big winner, as far as I can tell, was the Owen Sound Selects Fastball program which, for a 5th time in a decade, hosted a Softball Canada Championship.
And based on the relative peacefulness throughout the week in the Press Box, I can only assume that everyone was satisfied, or more than satisfied, with the Selects hosting the Canadian Fastball Championship.
I’m Fred Wallace
