Although it’s not official yet, this is a terrific idea that’s on the verge of confirmation.
Hockey Organizers, community officials & fundraisers at Kincardine have come together to create the ” CIS Great Lakes Challenge “.
The CIS Great Lakes Challenge, in a nutshell, is a 4 school University Women’s Hockey Tournament to be staged in Kincardine September 30th through October 2nd.
Again, while unconfirmed at this very second, it’s expected Lethbridge, Regina, York University and the University of Guelph will play in the inaugural tournament, playing a round robin series of games in Kincardine over the course of 3 days.
As a function of the event, the tournament will also serve as a fundraiser for the arena addition fund at the Davidson Centre.
As I understand it, there’s already a very positive buzz in the Kincardine area regarding the event, with the visualization of the Great Lakes Challenge becoming an annual event.
I like this idea a lot.
First, from a fundraising standpoint, it’s hockey for the sake of both hockey and community activities at the Davidson Centre Arena.
Second, for a small town like Kincardine, this could morph into a very big event year after year.
Third, I’d assume for the ladies hockey programs at the 4 schools participating, this would be beneficial
Next, anything that puts women’s hockey in the spotlight is good for the players today and as a form of inspiration for the growing number of players in our region.
And finally, this is a terrific concept of thinking outside the box, utilizing a local complex to facilitate out of market groups, yet still benefiting the very complex where the games are being played.
The CIS-Great Lakes Challenge at Kincardine
I like it.
