What an amazing week in local sports this has been.
In random order, Brianna Cooper, Mike Jackson, the Owen Sound Quantum Properties Woodsmen, Kenny Wallace, the Wiarton Red Devils, the Owen Sound Brick Brothers Volkswagen Selects plus Jarrod Maidens & Gemel Smith have all taken turns in the local sporting spotlight.
Look at the diversity of activities there, from golf to hockey, from auto racing to fastball & lacrosse.
Maybe this is the same for every community across Canada, but I’d put that selection of sports-newsmakers up against almost any market or region under 100,000 population.
To be fair, the Grey Motors United soccer squad steps into the limelight tonight with a huge game in the York Region Soccer League when they host the Newmarket Rangers with second place in the Premier Division on the line.
The Rangers have 26 points in 14 games. Grey Motors has 26 points in 15 matches.
Furthermore, the winner tonight could move into a tie with Collingwood United atop the division depending on how Collingwood makes out tonight when they host Orillia.
The Rangers-Grey Motors game starts at 8:30 at the Kiwanis Soccer Complex.
The Collingwood-Orillia game goes at 9 pm at Fisher Field.
Two more entries into an already packed week for local sports teams and personalities.
