Two things today.
Number One, Traginitis Cup Quarterfinal tonight in Owen Sound- Grey Motors United hosting Orillia at 8:30 at the Kiwanis Soccer Complex.
Number Two, Lacrosse.
The Junior B Western Conference semifinals commence tomorrow.
There’s an all-Midwest Division matchup between Elora & Orangeville while the other best of 5 West semifinal has Six Nations against Windsor who have to be considered underdogs in that series against the Rebels
Meanwhile in Senior Lacrosse, we’ve got a fitting finish to the regular season for the Owen Sound Quantum Properties Woodsmen.
The defending Ontario Champion Woodsmen have 2 games remaining in the regular season; tomorrow at Norwood against Champs & then Sunday afternoon at home against the Brooklin Merchants.
The Woodies, Champs & Merchants are in a tremendous derby to nail down first place in the league standings, a perch that virtually guarantees the regular season champion will avoid the other two top contenders until the very end- barring upset.
And while upsets can always happen in pro or amateur sports, it doesn’t look plausible here, with a 14 point gap existing from the # 3 slot down to # 4.
And while the playoffs are big, and always have been for the Owen Sound operation, I doubt they’re looking too far ahead, especially with a showdown road game tomorrow night at Norwood and then a home date Sunday against Brooklin at 4 pm at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Center.
