As we approach Canada Day, we also approach one of the signature sporting events each and every year in the country; the Canadian Open.
This year, the Canadian Open is being hosted at Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club in Vancouver from July 18th to 24th.
There’s no question that through the years, the Canadian Open has been claimed by the elite of the game; Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, Nick Price at his best, & of course, Tiger Woods, to name some of the prominent winning names
Unfortunately, and somewhat typically Canadian, attracting names to the event has evolved into a bashful experience, making us almost apologetic and somewhat embarrassed periodically when top players bypass the affair.
But this year, the field does carry marquee names headed by Luke Donald, the top-ranked golfer in the world
Other PGA Tour players in the field include Jim Furyk, Ernie Els, # 7 Matt Kuchar and Paul Casey who’s also in the top 15 in the Golf rankings.
Regardless of the lustre of the field, the Canadian Open almost always produces a great weekend of golf, and furthermore it gives an opportunity for the best golfers in our country, past, present & future, to get their whacks against top PGA players.
Happy Canada Day
I’m Fred Wallace
