Saugeen Shores now has a long-term financial plan for its water and wastewater systems.
It’s all part of the province’s program for each municipality to get a Municipal Drinking Water License.
The financial plan was put together by Genivar who was asked to work with staff to identify the related sewer and water requirements for a 15-year planning horizon along with its costs.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith says it’s really just a guideline to let the municipality and the province know what kind of infrastructure will be needed in the years ahead and how it’s going to be paid for.
Smith was quick to point out that although user fee rate increases of 4 to 7 per cent per year over the next several years to fund the operation and capital budget issues was just a suggestion and likely not going to happen.
He says the financial plan will be re-visited in five years time and changes could be made.
It will be up to the council of the day to decide where the municipality goes from there.
