Cesena, Italy: Dancers from Owen Sound’s DanceMakers studio claimed multiple World Championship prizes at the Dance Grand Prix Italia.
Competing in three categories at the internationally-acclaimed event, the 15 teens (14 girls and one boy) were awarded two firsts and a third.
Trophies were presented late on June 26th at the closing ceremonies of the event, which featured over 1,000 dancers from 25 countries. The DanceMakers dancers were the only Canadian representatives at the 2011 event.
Prizes were presented in several dance styles including Ballet, Modern, Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop and Folk.
DanceMakers results:
1st Contemporary Division – DanceMakers performance “Earth Song”
1st Best Use of Music in Choreography – Mijka Hooper, DanceMakers
3rd Ballet Division (Over 16) – DanceMakers performance “Birds of Paradise”
DanceMakers co-founder Bob Hooper says,”An achievement this remarkable only goes to prove it doesn’t matter where you’re from or the size of your community. If you believe in yourself, dream big, have quality coaching and a solid work ethic, you will find yourself on the world stage.”
The Dance Grand Prix Italia is recognized as the biggest World Dance Event in Europe and took place the historic and ornate A. Bonci Theatre in Cesena, Italy from June 23rd to 26th.
