There’s a night of Olympic Style Boxing set for Saturday night in Wasaga Beach.
Tri Star Academy is presenting their third annual night of Boxing at the Rec Plex and those involved in the program are excited on a variety of levels.
They’re excited because there are 13 bouts on the card featuring fighters from all over Ontario, including hometowners from Tri Star who get to showcase their skills at home.
They’re excited about the Main Event, a women’s match between Canadian Olympic hopeful Mary Spencer, who grew up in our region, against Melinda Watpool.
Watpool recently fought at a similar dinner-fight night program at the Royal York where tickets went for $ 300 a pop. The cost at the Rec Plex this weekend is significantly less.
And finally, they’re excited, yet challenged, by the growth of this concept.
Through the years, the Olympic Style Boxing Night has grown to the point that ticket sales are close to capacity and the potential exists that they may need a new venue, a larger venue, by this time next year.
Regardless, the dinner portion of the evening begins Saturday at 6, followed by the first tilt an hour later.
