I will say this about this time of the year, there’s no shortage of local sporting activities to get to.
I’m not sure where to go; with the York Region Soccer results, the Satellites Gymnastics Showcase, the Bluewater Fastball League games tonight, the upcoming O.A.S.A. Junior Championship or the NHL Draft this weekend….
Actually, I’ll go with lacrosse.
First of all, a tip of the cap to the Owen Sound Bluewater ProTeam NorthStars.
Sunday night, facing the end of a long and trying season, going against a truly gifted squad from Six Nations, the NorthStars lost by a wide margin, but never quit and didn’t resort to anything foolish in the game.
We’ll deal with the NorthStars in more detail at a later date.
Finally, we want to congratulate Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse and the organizers of the annual Harry Kazarian Memorial Minor Lacrosse Tournament.
I watched all 6 Championship Games on Sunday and there wasn’t one lopsided result which speaks to the calibre of play at every age bracket.
Owen Sound teams did well, especially the Intermediates who advanced to the Jim Nickel Division Championship, before losing to Cambridge 3-1, and it’s very apparent how much this tournament means to the local entries.
And to the community at large; is there a bigger and better sporting event, or event in general, with a history & tradition approaching a quarter of a century ?
Pretty rare.
It’s a good week for local sports, we’ll move to other topics tomorrow.
I’m Fred Wallace
