In his heart, I’m willing to wager that Mark Reeds wants to coach at a higher level, in fact, the highest level
In Owen Sound we should take no offence to that; it’s the nature of the coaching beast to aspire higher, and I can’t imagine a coach having a better resume at the moment than Mark.
But moments come and go, and we wonder, with speculation last week pertaining to the Ottawa Senators coaching staff what the mood of the moment is.
Paul MacLean is the new head coach of the NHL Senators.
He is a former teammate, a former coaching colleague and a personal friend of Mark Reeds.
But does Paul MacLean get to choose his assistant coaches ?
He should. But keep in mind, this is Ottawa.
Senators General Manager Bryan Murray, who chose MacLean, may owe Kurt Kleinendorst, the coach of the AHL Champion Binghampton Senators an elevated position, although it appears Kleinendorst is staying put.
And furthermore, does Bryan Murray actually have the total say on who assists MacLean ?
Keep in mind they all work for Eugene Melnyk, a passionate and active owner, who by allowing Murray to stay in his position after a poor season last year, may have the ownership clout to implant another candidate, say, Dave Cameron of the St Mike’s Majors, a long time and loyal member of the Melnyk hockey chain.
That’s the way it appeared over the weekend with Cameron stating he’s Ottawa bound.
So Mark Reeds’ name was in the mix, no question, but with the Senators, you wonder if the mix isn’t somehow mixed up.
