The push is on to amalgamate two United Churches in Owen Sound by January 1st next year.
Chair of the Future Direction Committee, Terry King says the congregations at Knox and Division street United have voted to form one congregation.
They plan to worship in Division street church, although King says that decision is not final.
If they do use Division street, King says they’ll explore new uses for the 165 year old Knox United church, however, selling the church could be an option if nothing else is feasible.
The amalgamation has bene in works for about 18 months.
King says as church attendance continues to fall, maintaining the separate churches gets harder by the month.
Division street has less than 400 members and Knox about 250 members.
King says more meetings are planned in the coming months before all the details on amalgamation are finalized.
