The people who employ me, manage me & supervise me, stipulate this segment is to be about sports, and sports alone.
So, periodically, when I deviate, there are not-so-subtle reminders from above, about mandates & focus, etc.
But I doubt if anyone will be overly upset today, because the overwhelming image of recent days does not pertain to the Stanley Cup blowout last night, the NBA Final, the French Open, Lacrosse, nor Hanover Raceway for that matter.
What stands out are a series of impressive impressions left by Saturday’s Cops for Cancer Shave Off in Owen Sound.
The event this year was hosted by Boston Pizza and full credit to both the Bluewater Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society and Boston Pizza for adaptability- as the weather torpedoed the original plans to be outside, forcing the proceedings inside.
Sure it was chaotic at times, but it was also intimate and were it not for health regulations, this might be the way to go in the future.
Other lasting images…..
Geoff Stevens singing ” Gonna Find A Cure “.
Every Taylor from here to Guelph participating in a massive family shaveoff.
The 3 members of the ” Moms for Moms ” who generated more than $ 6,000.
Our Dan MacLean losing the ” anchor hair “
And on it went, with so many touching stories.
In the end, more than $ 25,000 was raised by the Cops for Cancer Shaveoff Saturday in Owen Sound.
And while it’s not a sport per se, there’s little doubt about how significant this event is within the city & region.
Back to sports tomorrow. Promise.
I’m Fred Wallace
