Among the activities of note for local sports today, tomorrow and Saturday is the OFSAA Track & Field Championship at Sudbury.
I’ve always thought track & field is the best sport for high school competition, because the size of your school really has no bearing on whether or not your program is successful.
In almost every case, the onus is on the student-athlete to do their best in order to get to the Ontario Championship.
This year, we’ve got a half dozen Bluewater athletes competing at OFSAA and we’ll be monitoring their results through the week.
Elsewhere, while it’s not a track meet, it probably seems that way for the Owen Sound Bluewater ProTeam NorthStars Junior B Lacrosse club.
The Stars host Elora tonight at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Center, have their annual golf tournament tomorrow at Sauble Golf & Country, come back Saturday night to host Guelph and then wrap the weekend on Sunday afternoon again at home when they host Niagara.
That’s busy.
And truthfully, the NorthStars have a huge challenge in front of them.
While not official, I technically count 7 of the 8 playoff spots in the West virtually clinched.
That leaves the NorthStars, who are 2 & 7 on the year after a glut of road games to start the season, needing to win a lot at home down the stretch in order to be the one team among 6 contenders to grab the final playoff spot.
Game time tonight for the NorthStars and Elora is 8 pm at the J.D. McArthur Arena
I’m Fred Wallace
