I should talk about the Memorial Cup experience, but as you know, today is June 1st.
And as everybody knows, June 1st means only one thing- the Stanley Cup Final is about to begin.
8 months from Opening Night to now, and what we’re left with are the Vancouver Canucks and the Boston Bruins for the National Hockey League Championship.
For the Canucks, their path included some stutter steps, but they’ve managed to finish Chicago in 7, Nashville in 6 & San Jose in 5 to win the West.
In the East, Boston conquered Montreal ( barely ), swept Philly and finally outlasted Tampa Bay to get to the Championship.
Therefore, my call is Vancouver to take the Championship, based on the appearance that the Canucks are getting better as the playoffs progress while Boston has wild swings in their results.
Either way, for Leaf fans, this matchup is terrible.
If Vancouver wins, it will be their first ever Stanley Cup, it would give them Canadian bragging rights and even if they lose, it will represent their third trip to the Final in their 40 year history while Toronto hasn’t been there since 1967.
For Boston. Same story. If the Bruins win, it’s their first Cup since 1972 and if not, it still means they’ve been to the Stanley Cup EIGHT times since the Leafs were last there.
Puck drops tonight in Vancouver for the Canucks-Bruins opener
I’m Fred Wallace
