Let me get the sequence of events straight here……
New York Rangers forward Sean Avery, a former Owen Sound Platers, issued a tweet announcing his support of same-sex marriage.
First of all, it’s a free country and as far as I’m concerned, Sean is entitled to think and say what he wants regarding almost any issue.
But because it was Sean Avery, it somehow became a day long story for the big-time sports media
Who cares what Sean Avery thinks about same-sex marriage ?
The waters were muddied in short order when hockey agent Todd Reynolds used Twitter to voice his opposition to Avery’s position.
That’s fair.
Again it’s a free country and knowing the Reynolds Family a little bit, I understand the values they live by.
But once again, it became a major story. Because……?
Who cares what Todd Reynolds thinks about same-sex marriage ?
Not to be outdone, Rogers Sportsnet host Damien Goddard tweeted his support for the Reynolds viewpoint.
Goddard got admonished by Sportsnet who first stated the tweet from Goddard ” does not reflect the views of Rogers Sportsnet ” then they gassed him saying ” he is not the right fit for our organization,”
Amazing.
In the sportsworld, who cares what Sean Avery, Todd Reynolds and Damien Goddard think about anything other than hockey or sports ?
Truthfully, there must be more to the firing of Goddard than his social views.
Around here, maybe where you work, you’d be canning employees every hour of the day.
For the record, I don’t think anyone cares what I think about same-sex marriage.
I’m Fred Wallace
