Olympiques Maxime Clermont Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week
Toronto, ON The Canadian Hockey League today announced that for the second straight week Maxime Clermont of the Gatineau Olympiques is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week. For the week ending May 8, Clermont posted a 2-1 record with a goals-against-average of 2.02 and save percentage of .945.
Last Tuesday night Clermont made 31 saves as part of a 5-2 win over the Quebec Remparts in Game seven of the QMJHL Semi-Finals helping the Olympiques advance to the QMJHL Finals for the first time since 2008. In Game one of the finals against the Saint John Sea Dogs on Thursday, Clermont made 35 saves despite a 2-1 loss receiving second star honours. He then made 38 saves to backstop the Olympiques to a 3-2 win on Saturday where he was named third star of the game. The Sea Dogs took Game three of the series 5-0 on Monday night and currently lead 2-1.
Clermont, a 19-year-old from Montreal, Quebec, is playing in his fourth QMJHL season with the Olympiques. A New Jersey Devils prospect selected in the sixth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Clermont ranks second in the QMJHL with a 2.24 goals-against-average and the best save percentage at .924 in 18 playoff games.
Also considered for the award this week was Michael Zador of the Owen Sound Attack who won two games with a goals-against-average of 2.63 and save percentage of .924 to help tie the OHL Championship Series 2-2 against the Mississauga St. Michaels Majors. In the WHL, the Championship Series between the Portland Winterhawks and Kootenay Ice is tied 1-1 with Mac Carruth backstopping the Winterhawks to the win in the opening game after making 24 saves in a 6-3 win over the Spokane Chiefs in Game six of the Western Conference Finals last Monday.
