The 2011 Bluewater Girls Rugby season begins Wednesday in both the North & in the South.
There are 5 teams in the North competing, all 3 Owen Sound Secondary Schools plus Grey Highlands at Flesherton and Meaford’s Georgian Bay Secondary.
In the South, 4 schools have teams; John Diefenbaker in Hanover, Kincardine District and both Walkerton High Schools
There will be 3 playing dates this year beginning with the openers on Wednesday at West Hill in Owen Sound & at Kincardine
There are additional dates coming up May 4th at OSCVI and at Hanover followed by the final date May 9th at Victoria Park in Owen Sound & at Walkerton District
Girls Rugby in the Bluewater region has truly expanded with more schools fielding better teams with each passing year.
For the participants there are many appeals to the sport, plus for the schools themselves, the nature of the sport serves as a unique bonding experience from oldest to youngest within the walls of the school
Following the regular season, there will be a preliminary playoff date on Monday May 16th followed by the Bluewater Championship Games Wednesday May 18th at Sacred Heart in Walkerton
The Bluewater season lasts just 3 weeks from start to finish, but for the participants, the benefits of Bluewater Girls Rugby last far longer
