The Stanley Cup Playoffs begin this week.
Last week, I went to Toronto to watch the Greatest Team in Hockey……. The Leafs were playing too.
On that night, the Washington Capitals were in T.O. and managed to squeak out a narrow 3-2 shootout win over James Reimer and the Leafs
Reimer was terrific as a very good Washington squad outshot Toronto by a 2 to 1 margin throughout the game and still the Leafs managed to get a point.
On the various radio-call in-talk-shows on the drive home, I listened as Leaf fans praised Reimer and expressed how much hope they had for the Toronto club going forward.
I had hope too. Hope that these fans gets some serious help.
The game with Washington was a debacle.
Captain Dion Phaneuf made one glaring blunder after the next, conceivably because he was trying too hard.
Mike Komisarek. Komiserable.
Nazim Kadri. Wasn’t the lengthy stint with the Marlies designed to eliminate careless turnovers & giveaways ?
There were positives for Toronto, especially Reimer in goal, but when the previously unheralded goalkeeper is your best player in a collection of well paid and well publicized stars, do the 2012 NHL Playoffs look possible ?
