Throughout the year, I get these great ideas for April Fools’ commentaries and then when the big day arrives, it never fails, there’s too much good local sports stuff to talk about.
There’s obviously lots of hockey to discus today with big hockey games tonight at the Plex in Port Elgin, and at the New Tecumseh Rec Center in Alliston.
Plus, the Ontario Hockey League playoffs continue tomorrow night at the J.D. McArthur Arena in Owen Sound.
But I want to break from hockey and skip April Fools’ to focus on the National Snowcross Championship this weekend at Horseshoe Resort near Barrie.
Iain Hayden of Holland Center captured the Provincial title last week at Chicopee Resort at Kitchener, and this weekend he hopes to accomplish the same feat on the National scale.
Racing for the Polaris Rockstar team, Hayden took advantage of both weather conditions and a solid tech team to post the victory last weekend
Heading to Horseshoe, the 28 year old Hayden holds down the points lead and he hopes to remain consistent throughout the weekend and get the National crown.
Iain Hayden is obviously looking forward to the weekend at what might be the crossroads for him as he prepares to transition out of racing and into operating MotoPark among other ventures.
And while he can’t wait, we’ll have to wait until 2012 to try an April Fools’ prank
I’m Fred Wallace
