Will the Owen Sound Aquatic Club have a swimmer qualify for the Canadian Olympic trials ?
Coach Ryan Hood relates reaching that level is a distinct possibility and what’s remarkable, the candidates to do so are all male.
In the lengthy history of the Owen Sound club, they’ve never had a male swimmer advance to the Olympic trials which, as you can imagine, is a very difficult event to get to.
Currently, Hood sees great potential in 3 of his swimmers; Chris Hatcher, Justin Salerne & Jake See.
In order to get to the Olympic Trials, a swimmer must meet a qualifying standard at a recognized meet and the time required to qualify is swift, very swift.
Between now and the Olympic trials, Coach Hood believes his candidates need to upgrade two aspects; their physical strength and their self confidence, the belief that they truly belong in a pool with Canada’s best swimmers
To that end, Hatcher, Salerne and See will spend several weekends at the University of Guelph Olympic Pool training with swimmers who have already qualified for the Olympic Trials, giving them an opportunity to see exactly what it takes up close to get to the Olympic Swim Trials
