Spring is officially two weeks away.
Earth Day, which I always target as the start of spring weather, is 6 weeks away.
And the waiting for a prolonged period of nice weather is making me somewhat jumpy
To ease the agititation, I was overjoyed last week to receive the 2011 Schedule for the BAGS Junior Golf Tour.
The BAGS Tour, centered out of Wasaga Beach offers a multi level opportunity for young golfers, primarily in their teen years.
For some, it serves as an introduction to the sport.
For others, it’s just a great Spring & Summer recreational activity
And for a select few, it allows them to compete and heighten their skills in a competitive, if not semi-professional, environment.
The schedule once again is top heavy with Stroke Play events, 15 of them in fact.
But there’s also a Match Play element with a Qualifier, Quarter Final, Semifinals & Match Play Championship
At year end, there’s also a Tournament of Champions, usually at the Georgian Bay Club were stop winners and the top 3 finishers in the Order of Merit are invited to compete
pLus the Ontario Junior Tour Team Championships are set for August 29th to 31st allowing the best players from BAGS to test their skills against other top players from Junior Tours around Ontario
But here’s the catch.
While the BAGS Junior Golf Tour spells & smells like Spring, the first event isn’t until May 29th at Simoro near Barrie which means Golf Season could be 2 & 1/2 months away.
I’m Fred Wallace
