The family of a girl that died at Blue Mountain Ski Resort is suing the resort, and the London District Catholic School Board.
17 year old Elisabeth Reurink was on a school trip from the London based Catholic Central High School when the fatal accident happened on March 5, 2009.
Her family says they started the lawsuit in an effort to get answers about why she died, and how she was permitted to ski on a slope they believe was beyond her abilities.
The suit alleges that the school board failed to take adequate safety precautions, and also states that she died because she was not taught how to stop or slow down on a challenging hill.
The lawsuit also claims Elisabeth “expressed misgivings to her teacher, but was encouraged to take the run.”
Reurink crashed into a tree, which resulted in a fractured skull, severed her thoracic aorta, and lacerated her liver on the “L-Hill” ski run.
The family also asks “how many children have to ‘actually die’ before our governing bodies take this seriously and meet their responsibilities?”
No word on how much the family is suing for.
