Fastball season is a long way off,or so it seems, but to the credit of the Owen Sound Selects organization, they’re far from hibernating this winter.
In the last few days a variety of items of note have popped out of the Selects agenda.
In no particular order, the Selects announced the date for the ISC Travel League Regular season weekend at Duncan McLellan Park which is May 28th & 29th.
Will Owen Sound have an additional weekend date in conjunction with the Port Elgin Blue Devils ? That’s to be revealed later.
Plus, the Selects also confirmed they will be the host team for the ISC Travel League Playoff Tournament scheduled for July 22nd to 24th
And one other note with the Verge Investment Senior Selects, along with hosting the Canadian Men’s Championship Tournament in August, they also anticipate the National Team from New Zealand could be in the city at some point this summer
The Selects also operate a Junior & Midget Club.
In fact, the proposal is to have TWO Junior teams this year
One Volkswagen Junior entry would host the Ontario Junior Championship during the Canada Day weekend in Owen Sound.
The other would compete primarily in the Bluewater Fastball League
Finally, the Selects Midget program, which has some pretty prominent players who have evolved in the Owen Sound program will be aiming to get to the National Midget Championships in New Brunswick this summer.
That’s an ambitious operation and while the first pitch is at least two, maybe three months away, preparations for all levels of the Selects program are well underway
