I didn’t watch a lot of NFL Football this season, but it’s impossible to escape its tentacles as the sport seems to be all reaching- even here in Canada where we have no team to speak of.
Like most, I took in the Super Bowl, spending half the game at the Bayshore Broadcasting Party at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Owen Sound and the other half at my buddy, Whitey’s.
In fairness, the prizes were better with the Knights of Columbus Hall, but the gambling at Whitey’s was unparalleled.
Regardless, it’s the Green Bay Packers who are the Super Bowl 45 Champions, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers in what was a better than usual climax to the NFL season.
It didn’t start that way with the Packers getting off the mark so much better and holding large leads in the first half.
Undaunted, Pittsburgh refused to surrender and continued to press until the final play of the game before the issue was decided.
In the end, the Steelers turned the ball over far too much and attempted a lengthy field goal that produced bupkiss and that was the ball game for 2011.
Green Bay takes the title, Pittsburgh is the runner up, and spring football for the NFL starts in about 5 minutes.
