One of the really cool things about this job, is that people tell you stuff.
Stuff that they’re not prepared to tell anyone else. At least not yet.
Sit in my desk on any given day and you’ll get all kinds of gems, either over the phone, or from the never ending parade of clients and guests on the talk shows.
‘ Oh. Fred, I wanted to tell you…..’
It’s awesome being on the local information frontier.
They give you the event, the date, the location, the time, the key participants that they hope to have on hand, and relate how special the function will be and the significance it will carry in the community or region.
And then, at the end, they ask you not to tell anybody.
Such was the case last Wednesday, when a prominent regional citizen with an exceptionally high profile called and explained the concept and format for a major local event.
Later that night at the Attack game, the citizen approached again, this time in the Press Box, with even more details and a greater sense of excitement as the details are starting to formulate.
As promised, I can’t say much, but I can tell you it’s hockey oriented and if you’re looking for a date to circle on the calendar, it’s September 17th.
I’m Fred Wallace
