The 2011 Dominion Tankard for the Ontario Men’s Curling Championship is less than 2 weeks away
This year, Grimsby is the host center with the matches being played at the Peach King Center February 7th to 13th
Without question, the heavy favorites coming in will be the Glenn Howard rink who will be participating as ” Team Ontario “.
Howard’s rink, in it’s various forms, has been a provincial and national contender for a long time.
The Region 3 entries are not connected to Zone 11 this year, but they will feature prominent names Peter Corner of Brampton and Dale Matchett representing Bradford.
The remainder of the Regional winners in the field are Greg Balsdon of the Loonie Curling Club, Renfrew’s Chris Gardner, John Epping of the Donalda Club, Mark Kean from Annandale, Mark Bice of Sarnia Golf & Curling and Nick Rizzo from Brantford who’s been on the scene for most of the last two deacdes
The recent Challenge Round winners round out the field of 11
Jake Higgs of Harriston won the West Challenge at Shelburne while Howard Rajala, of Rideau qualified from the East at Oshawa.
It might not be the most star studded field, but potentially, the guard may be changing in curling and some younger rinks may have a chance to make a statement in February in Grimsby
