This is very late, but honestly, I’ve still got such a good buzz from last Wednesday and the World Junior Hockey Championships.
I’ve told you before, I highly recommend Buffalo as an NHL hockey destination, and the final day World Junior Championship was every bit as good as an NHL experience.
In the Bronze medal game between Sweden and the Americans, at the 13 minute mark of the 1st period, the crowd started chanting ” Ca-Na-Da, Ca-Na-Da “, hours before the Canada-Russia final.
In fact, if you took out the Canadians in the Bronze medal game, the crowd would have been as large as the last Woodford Royals game at the Bayshore.
Everywhere you looked was Red & White, which guilted me into overpaying for a Hockey Canada hoodie, but hey, now I was even more into it.
And the final, truly memorable.
Yes, I’m disappointed Canada lost, and lost in the manner they did.
But for entertainment value, with all the Russian goals at our end of the rink in the 3rd period, it was thrilling and disappointing and a wicked emotional ride especially in the late going.
I doubt I’ll get to the World Junior Championship next year, or maybe ever again, but if you have just one experience by which to gauge an event, last Wednesday was a marvellous measuring stick for World Junior Tournaments to come.
I’m Fred Wallace
