This is 2011 and, to a certain extent, the clock is ticking on the lacrosse season.
In particular, the Owen Sound Woodsmen Senior Lacrosse program needs to see some good things happen quickly.
At the conclusion of last season, Woodsmen General Manager Mark Berner announced he was departing from the club and also was looking to place his sponsorship dollars from his contracting firm into other activities.
At the same time, long time corporate supporters van Dolder’s Home Team also confirmed they were ceasing their participation as a major sponsor with the club.
From the Fall to today, the Woodsmen have been unable to secure a new major sponsor, which is a 5 digit commitment to the club.
There have been businesses and supporters who have stepped up to pledge their assistance, but that aid is tentative and has fallen short of what the Woodsmen firmly need to operate
There are 2 dates in the short term of significance for the Woodsmen
10 days from now, the Senior Lacrosse Association Protected lists must be submitted, and Owen Sound will have a firm handle on whether they’re going or not.
The second key date is at the end of the month when the OLA Senior Lacrosse scheduling meeting will be staged, so by January 31st, we’ll know whether Senior lacrosse lives, or departs once again, in Owen Sound
