The final of 3 Fall Weekend Tournaments for Owen Sound Minor Hockey Group wrapped up on Sunday
The Silver Stick Qualifier had 3 divisions, so essentially it was 3 tourney’s rolled into one and allowed one team to advance to the International Silver Stick at Newmarket in Minor Atom, Minor Peewee & Minor Bantam.
Uxbridge won the Minor Peewee Final & Innisfil won the Minor Atom title with shutout victories.
Without question, the best final of the weekend was the Minor Bantam Final which featured the Owen Sound Firefighter Attack who lost a heartbreaker to the Oakville Rangers 2-1.
Oakville scored very in the 2nd period, just after an Owen Sound minor penalty had expired.
The Firefighters pressed and pressed, and finally got the equalizer when Nathan Roy tied the game from the side of the Oakville goal with less than 5 minutes to play.
The game appeared to be heading for O.T. when Vincent Reale of the Rangers managed to get one by Owen Sound netminder Andrew Rutherford with just under 2 minutes to play.
By and large, this Owen Sound entry is the same outfit that hosted the Ontario Hockey Federation Peewee Championship last April.
With these two events as examples of the experience they’re gaining, the Firefighter Attack have to believe they’ll have some other significant hockey games in the not too distant future.
