One of the most ridiculous scenarios I’ve seen in decades of amateur sports ends tonight when the Owen Sound Greys travel to Kitchener to face the Dutchmen in Midwestern Junior Hockey League play.
The game tonight will conclude a 12 GAME road swing for the Greys.
Who designs that kind of a schedule ? Especially in a season in which the Greys are trying to re-establish themselves and return to being a competitive team in Junior Hokey.
I will say this for the schedule maker, there is some symmetry here, as the Greys never ending road swing started at Kitchener with a 9-3 loss to the Dutchmen Oct 5th and, in a sick irony, ends tonight, again at Kitchener.
In between the Greys lost at Listowel TWICE 8-0 & 6-2.
They lost 7-3 at St Mary’s
They went to Stratford. TWICE. Losing 13-4 & 7-2.
Brantford beat the Greys 8-2, London won at home 7-2 over Owen Sound, plus Elmira used home ice for a 4-2 victory
Plus, the Greys went to Waterloo. TWICE. Lost the first time 4-3 & lost their most recent trip to Waterloo on Sunday 4-3 in overtime.
To this point in the odyssey, Owen Sound has garnered 1 point in 11 games.
And while it’s fashionable in many circles to greet the Greys with derision, to their credit, they’ve survived this ordeal, improved in several facets and once they get through tonight, they can finally come home for a game at the Lumley-Bayshore Sunday afternoon against Guelph.
