Lawyer Kevin Sherwood says he’ll miss Saugeen Shores when he leaves next week to begin his career as a judge for the Ontario Court of Justice.
The lawyer has been appointed by the Ministry of the Attorney General to the position in Simcoe after an application process.
Sherwood says he and his family are excited to start a new chapter of their lives in a town they’ve fallen in love with.
But he says it’s bittersweet, as Southampton has been home for most of his life, and he’ll miss the friends and colleagues they have here.
Sherwood began practicing law in 1984, and says becoming a judge has been a goal for quite some time.
He hopes to sit as a fair judge, and says he hopes to help alleviate some of the backlog that are part of the justice system.
Sherwood has had a general practice for several years in Saugeen Shores, where he’s dealt in everything from real estate and corporate law.
But he says the real focus for him has been in criminal and family courts, where he’s been doing a lot of work on child protection laws for the Children’s Aid Society of Bruce County.
Sherwood officially takes up his position as judge on Wednesday, November 10th.
