As it pertains to the Saginaw Spirit & tonight’s Ontario Hockey League game in Owen Sound against the Attack, here’s all the Attack & their fans need to know; Saginaw is good.
Very good.
The Spirit are interesting collection of players, a team that essentially does not have a superstar, which is rare for a junior hockey outfit.
Don’t get me wrong, the Spirit have a nice assortment of talented players; Jordan Szwarz, Josh Shalla, Vincent Trochek, Ivan Telegin, Michael Sgarbossa, Ryan O’Connor, on any given night any of those guys are capable of being the best player in the game, and some nights, when they’re all going, you can appreciate they’re a handful.
But what has propelled Saginaw to the top of the OHL Overall Standings is depth.
They can play either goalie without giving up much.
Like Owen Sound, they have at least 7 defenders, all of whom can play, several of home thrive in specific situations depending how the game is going.
And if you think the Spirit can be pushed around or physically knocked off their game; think again.
By my count, there’s a half dozen Spirit players who play their best when the going gets tough.
The Spirit with 23 points, rated third in the CHL rankings, come to Owen Sound tonight to meet the Attack with 20 points, rated 5th this week in the CHL.
It’s a rare Friday night game in Owen Sound tonight and the matchup couldn’t be better.
Game time is 7:30
