We’ve all had the experience of being at a function or an event where we just didn’t want to leave.
Such was the case Saturday afternoon at Hanover Raceway as the track concluded the 2010 live harness racing season.
First of all, the weather Saturday afternoon was simply perfect; warm and cozy without a cloud in the sky.
Over the course of the day 14 races were staged and while the action was as solid as ever, you knew with each passing race, you were one race closer to the end of a very good season.
The best of the bunch were honoured Saturday with Hanover’s year-end awards.
The A.B. Fleishauer Horse of the Year was ” Lyons Geoff ” owned by Geoffrey Lyons Mound of Burford, driven by Anthony Haughn.
The 5 year old won 4 times in 7 starts at Hanover.
The Trotter of the year was ” Julians Jewel ” owned by Barry Klages of Owen Sound and Jim Ruhl of Tara, who also trains the horse.
And the Claimer of the Year was ” Cam from the West ” now owned by Dustin, Katie and George McClure who claimed the horse from Darryl and Gerald Holmes of Meaford.
The Driver & top percentage winner for 2010 once again is Trevor Henry.
Henry won 49 times on the season, 1 more victory than Bruce Richardson plus had .376 winning percentage for the year.
Finally, the Leifso Trainer of the Year was Paul Taylor of Clinton who more than 20 wins and 20 places in 105 starts.
From start to finish, Saturday was a great way to conclude the 2010 Racing Season at Hanover Raceway.
The 2011 season begins May 7th.
