The Bluewater Athletic Association is rolling for another year.
As we approach a week of football, Girls Basketball & Boys Volleyball action along with Cross Country meets and the CWOSSA Tennis Championship and OFSAA Golf at Richmond Hill, you know that the student athletes are busy.
An interesting initiative, likely province wide, but certainly being attempted in Bluewater is branded as ” Community Outreach “, that is making activities inside, outside and around Bluewater Secondary Schools visible and pertinent in their respective communities.
Using Bluewater as an example, we have 13 high schools located in 9 different cities, towns & villages and the activities, be they in sports or in other pursuits, are significant, but many times overlooked.
The most recent example of the Outreach Program was the 3rd Annual Bluewater Football Thanksgiving Night Classic between the West Hill Raiders and the OSCVI Falcons.
Initially, this game was conceived as a type of Thanksgiving Homecoming activity, not just for the school, but for retuning citizens and alumni of the two schools and the community in general.
There’s no question, the concept is growing as they added Girls Basketball between OSCVI & West Hill to the mix this season.
For next season, and I know I’m looking ahead here, my suggestion is to partner with the Salvation Army & Bayshore Broadcasting and see which Owen Sound school can donate the most canned food items at the football game in 2011.
Community Outreach. There’s unlimited potential here.
I’m Fred Wallace
