There are road trips and then there are ROAD trips.
The Owen Sound Greys of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League are about to embark on one of the all time ridiculous examples of poor scheduling in the history of amateur sports.
The Greys, who as hockey fans know, are facing enormous challenges as they try and revive what was once and for many years, was a great local OHA hockey tradition.
In recent times, competition in various forms, funding, an altered structure for high school graduation and several other significant elements, teamed up to knock the Greys out of operation last season.
This year, trying to get the program rolling again, the Greys sit at 1 & 7 in the early season and now face the prospect of playing their next TWELVE games on the road.
Twelve In a row. 12 !!!!!! That’s a tough challenge.
But I will say this, having seen the Greys play at home 3 times this year, facing another challenge won’t be a big deal.
I was happy for the Greys and proud of them on their lone victory, beating Waterloo 4-2 in a game in which they were widely outplayed and outshot.
Still, the assembled kids hung in their and scored the victory, in spite of being huge underdogs.
The Greys will be the underdogs every night out, it’s a given, they know it, so another daunting challenge, like 12 in a row on the road, is just part of the revival process.
