Is there anything better than a good time ?
Such is the case on annual basis at the Arran-Tara Fall Fair as they celebrated their 153rd edition last week with the theme ” Remember Your Roots. “
The sub-title for the function could very well have been, ” Have Fun & Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously “.
The highlight for me was the parade where prominent politicians rode on a float titled, ” Politicians Platform “, which in truth was two lawn chairs on a modified manure spreader. Killed me.
Strolling through the arena and curling club, you can sense the simple significance of the largely agricultural event which also featured the Wiarton Steppers in full dance.
It was fun.
And so too were the harness races, where 3 divisions of pacers and trotters had 2 heats apiece over the half mile track, turning in very respectable times for the mile long events.
Did anyone have more fun than Ben Holiday of Mount Forest who mugged for the cameras after winning with ” Lexis Norm ” , and then substituted for another driver in another heat to keep the good times rolling ?
There’s nothing better than a good time & we look forward to the 154th Arran-Tara Fair.
I’m Fred Wallace
