It’s funny, whenever it’s the ” off ” season, you get a hankering for the sport.
For example, all summer I’ve been thinking about hockey season and now that it’s here, truthfully, I’m thinking fastball already.
Among the last Leagues to climax was the Bluewater Fastball League who staged their year end tournament last weekend which was won by the Port Elgin Blue Devils who ended a spirited run by the Wiarton Nationals.
The Bluewater League also had their Awards night over the weekend.
Andy Jackson of the Nationals was selected as the League MVP while Scott Smith of Elmwood was chosen by the teams as the best pitcher.
Mike Reilly of the Blue Devils won the batting title, while the Chepstow Aces were selected as the Most Sportsmanlike team.
Reilly was among the league All Stars selected, a team that included catcher- Jason Miller, infielders Jared Clancy, Shawn Detzler, Brian Lantz & Brent Thompson plus outfielders Brett Underwood & Zack Carson and utility player Ryan Thompson
Fastball in 2011 should see another strong contingent of teams in Bluewater, plus the Ontario Junior Men’s Championship Tournament and the Canadian Men’s Championship Tournament will both be in Owen Sound.
Fastball has essentially wrapped up for 2010, but there’s a lot to anticipate from the sport in 2011.
