After a weekend like that, it’s probably too early to glance ahead to next weekend, but, away we go……
As has been the case for years and years, the village of Chepstow will be the host site for the year end Bluewater Fastball Championship.
Because of the timing of the Championship tournament, in the past not every team showed up for the event, or in some cases when they did show up, it was far from their best lineup on the field due to a variety of factors.
Regardless, the Bluewater League does have a large number of contenders and teams to be proud of.
The Port Elgin Blue Devils are generally considered the head of the class, a terrific club that has won an ISC II title in their history and taken Bluewater when their players weren’t committed elsewhere.
Port Elgin won the regular season title in 2010 with a record of 21 & 3.
But the Blue Devils, like any team, can be stymied by a great pitching performance and the Wiarton Nationals, Elmwood Smoke and the host Chepstow Aces know they can trot out a pitcher capable of turning in a shutdown of the Port Elgin bats.
The Bluewater League also boasts the Canadian Midget Champions; the Walkerton Wild and the Eastern Canadian Midget Champion Wiarton Red Devils.
And while the Wild and Red Devils, along with the Brick Brothers Volkswagen Midget Selects are longshots, it bodes well for the long term competition in this league and region with solid Midget aged teams
In the short term, another weekend isn’t that far away and the Bluewater Fastball Championship Tournament at Chepstow is among the highlights ahead.
