The long weekend…..
And for Owen Sound athlete Jason Crone, this is his last weekend in the city for a little while.
Crone, who is a member of Canada’s Wheelchair Rugby team is about to embark on a west coast journey that will be highlighted by the World Wheelchair Rugby Championships in Vancouver.
Prior to the Worlds, Crone has a couple of stops.
The first is at Vesco Metal Craft in San Diego.
Vesco is the worlds leading wheelchair manufacturer & have a model for Crone and his teammates that weighs about 7 pounds.
There is no comparison for Crone between the current model he competes with and what he describes as the ” bucket of bolts ” he started with earlier in the decade.
In fact, so impressed is Crone with Vesco, and they with him, that he does sales for the company.
Following the San Diego junket, Crone returns to Canada for a staging camp in Victoria, BC that should last most of a week and have the Canadian entry primed to compete at the Worlds which begin in mid September.
These are busy times and certainly exciting times for Jason Crone and his Canadian teammates who want to rise above their # 3 ranking and win the Worlds at home.
Wish Jason Crone luck this weekend, if you see him. If not, it will be quite awhile before he returns to Owen Sound.
I’m Fred Wallace
