Fastball has been getting a good run this week.
Unfortunately, neither the Port Elgin Blue Devils nor the Owen Sound Verge Investment Selects went a great distance at the ISC Championships in Midland, Michigan this week.
Both the Blue Devils and the Selects bowed out of the tourney on Wednesday morning, in somewhat of an upset in both cases.
The Verge Selects have one more major function, the Canadian Championship Tournament which begins August 29th on Prince Edward Island.
Of course next year, the National Men’s Championship tournament will be here in Owen Sound.
Meanwhile, the Wiarton Red Devils will be taking off next week for Newfoundland and the Eastern Canadian Midget Championships.
The Wild were 7th at the Ontario Championship tournament this year, and really, the difference between the Red Devils and the eventual Canadian Champion Walkerton Wild is slim.
Which bodes well for the future of fastball.
In the Red Devils case, they have the bulk of their roster returning to Midget next year which makes the tournament at Newfoundland more significant.
And looking down the road, could there be a viable Junior entries at Wiarton & Walkerton to rival Brick Brothers in Owen Sound ?
We’ll see what happens, short term and long term in local fastball
