The Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League had a news conference yesterday to introduce both new Assistant Coach Terry Virtue & unveil their third jerseys designed to commemorate the 1951 Allan Cup Champion Owen Sound Mercurys.
It was nice on both fronts.
What the Attack did not discuss yesterday were pending transactions, real and imagined.
Kerby Rychel, the son of Windsor Spitfires General Manager Warren Rychel, is property of the Barrie Colts.
No question Windsor wants him, but will they deal with Barrie, or will Barrie deal with Windsor ?
I doubt it.
Regardless, in order to get a compensation pick for Rychel if he’s a no show at Barrie, the Colts have to trade him somewhere in the OHL before training camp.
To Owen Sound ? I doubt that too.
Why get involved in that fiasco ?
Nevertheless, there was an alterationn in Owen Sound.
The Attack dispatched forward Myles Doan to the Niagara Ice Dogs
In exchange for Doan, heading into his 3rd season in the OHL, the Attack got a 4th round draft pick in 2011 & a conditional 4th in 2012
It’s not a blockbuster, but it’s good for all concerned.
And the name Nick Weiss out of Port Hope keeps popping up.
The Attack training camp begins a week from Monday.
New assistant coach, new Mercury jersey, and a roster alteration for the Attack, all in one day
I’m Fred Wallace
