As happy as you are for the Owen Sound van Dolder Home Team Woodsmen, to a certain extent, you have to feel for the Norwood James Gang.
Norwood led the Ontario Senior Lacrosse Championship Series over the Woodsmen 2 games to 1, but could not slay the dragon, as Owen Sound came back to win 10-5 & 10-8 to take the Ontario Championship and gain a berth at the 2010 Presidents Cup next week in Burnaby, B.C.
Most discouraging for Norwood was that prior to the 5th and deciding game on Tuesday night in Peterborough, the James Gang were undefeated as a home team on the year, only to lose the most crucial game of the season on home floor.
Finally, it looks like Norwood just can’t get a break anywhere
They couldn’t nail down the Championship Series, they couldn’t win on home floor, and even in one case where they thought they beat the Woodsmen- they didn’t.
Earlier this summer, both the Woodsmen and the James Gang went to the Ontario Lacrosse Association with their bids to host the Presidents Cup in 2011.
The Canadian Lacrosse Association awards the Championship on a rotating basis between East & West.
The year 2011 was an ” East ” year, and in the bid process, the Ontario Lacrosse Association backed the bid by Norwood over Owen Sound……
However, even with the OLA backing, the Canadian Lacrosse Association awarded the 2011 Presidents Cup to Cornwall and the Iroquois Lacrosse Association.
I’m happy for the Woodsmen and wish them the best in trying to three-peat at the Presidents Cup.
But poor Norwood can’t catch a break.
