The Saugeen Track & Field Club is holding their annual Awards Day & Barbeque tomorrow in Bruce County.
The event is designed to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of club members over the past year, thank their many sponsors who make their competitions possible plus gear up for the track and field season ahead.
The barbeque this year is being staged only days after a number Saugeen Athletes were at the National Youth Championships in Ottawa.
Kevin Bowman of Port Elgin, who’s having a terrific year was in the Boy’s Under 18 Shot Put, Discus, and Hammer Throw.
In the Girls Under 18 division, Port Elgin’s Jordaine Leeder competed in the 100 metres while Tiverton’s Cheyenne Hunter ran in both the 800 and 1500 metres.
Mat West of Mildmay, a terrific high jumper, was on the Ontario Royal Canadian Legion Team which also was competing at the championships.
In those 4 athletes. lies a shining example of the variety of opportunities available through the Saugeen Club.
Bowman throws, Leeder & Hunter run, while West is a jumper.
There is no discipline overlooked or lacking with the Saugeen Track and Field Club, not now, nor during their history which is approaching 30 years, which gives them more than enough reason to celebrate tomorrow and be prepared for the next sequence of events come Fall.
I’m Fred Wallace
