Will the Owen Sound van Dolder Home Team Woodsmen be able to turn the tide tonight in the Ontario Senior Lacrosse Championship Final when they host Norwood ?
Norwood leads the best of 5 Ontario Final, 1 game to none, but taking into consideration, the longer view of the entire season, somehow the Norwood Champs have managed to create a tiny mastery over the Woodsmen.
The victory in Game 1 of the Championship Final on Monday was the 4th straight this year for Norwood over Owen Sound and for the 4th time the circumstances were somewhat dramatic.
A late goal by Aaron Grayson with about 3 minutes to play won the opener of the playoff series.
In the regular season, Norwood was 3 & 0 head to head with the Woodies.
One night they scored twice in the last 16 seconds of the game to snatch an almost certain defeat and make it a victory.
Another night, the Champs scored 3 times in the last 6 minutes to win 11-9.
And who can forget their first meeting of the season when Owen Sound caved on a 9-0 lead after 12 minutes and lost 13-11 ?
Norwood is 4 & 0 overall against the Woodies, outscoring Owen Sound by a grand total of 6 goals in the four victories and almost always scoring the clutch goal, or goals, in the waning moments.
Will the tide change tonight in Game 2 ?
Game time is 8 pm at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore.
I’m Fred Wallace
