It’s a long way off, or at least it seems that way, but the 2012 Owen Sound Sports Hall of Fame Committee believes the sooner the better when it comes to nominations for consideration.
Talk to any of the members of the Hall of Fame Committee and they’ll tell you there are plenty of deserving candidates for induction out there.
But the thing of it is, the committee doesn’t handle nominations, that aspect of the process is up to you and truthfully does require a little work.
For your candidate you have to prepare a short biography listing their credentials along with their major accomplishments.
Furthermore, you may have to dig into the family archives or elsewhere to obtain a photo, or a series of photos, for both the video tribute and the potential plaque that accompanies the induction.
But anyone who has gone through that process, including myself when nominating people in the past, will tell you it’s more than worth the time invested.
Last spring, one only had to witness the pride of the Walker Family, or the video tribute to Kim Johnson, or listen to Budd Harron speak, or watch as Rooster McMillen’s friends gave him a standing ovation, to know this process is highly rewarding.
The point is, if you have a candidate in mind to nominate, don’t wait.
I’m Fred Wallace
