Everybody knows that I’m a promotional genius…..or like everyone I have the capability to come up with great ideas.
The difference between being an ” ideas man ” or a ” true visionary ” is whether or not your schemes come to fruition.
This one seems simple enough to me, and so I’ll pitch it to the local fastball organizations, specifically the Port Elgin Blue Devils & the Brick Brothers Junior Selects program.
Watching their doubleheader in early June at Duncan McLellan Park, I wondered, why don’t these teams play each other more often ?
Based on 2010, it would be in the best interest of both teams.
The Blue Devils clamour to face good pitching, and the Owen Sound Juniors with Dustin Veenhof & Luke Leahy are as formidable, and give or take an Andy Jackson at Wiarton, maybe more formidable than the hurlers the Blue Devils face in their Bluewater games.
For the Brick Brothers Juniors, playing an elite team like Port Elgin more frequently can only make them better.
The best fastball in the city & region, from my perspective was in 2003 when Owen Sound had both the Crunch and the Selects, and they played each other probably a dozen times, and while there was a nasty rivalry, it made both teams, and the sport in our region, vastly more entertaining.
So my suggestion to the Blue Devils & Junior Selects is to draw a 2011 schedule whereby from Mid-May through Mid-July, you play a doubleheader every week; one week at Duncan McLellan Park, the next week at Lakeview Park.
Genius.
