Attack Will Wear Mercurys Jersey On Special Dates Next Season
The Owen Sound Attack is pleased to announce that during special home dates next season, they will be wearing a commemorative third jersey that will honor the Owen Sound Mercurys, the premier mens ice hockey team in Owen Sound from 1946-1957.
The Mercurys jersey, which will be unveiled in mid August, will be worn for every Wednesday night home game for the 2010-2011 season, along with other specified dates throughout the year, including the Home Opener on Saturday, September 25th vs. The Guelph Storm, sponsored by Peninsula Ford.
“Reebok has done an exceptional job in making this come to life”, says Brent Fisher, Director of Marketing and Public Relations. “The jersey is an exact replica right down to the heavy stitching and felt crest and they have matched the pants and gloves perfectly. I wasnt around during that time, but hopefully those who were or had relatives play on the team will be proud to see the uniform again. I hope it means something to them.”
Every Wednesday night home game will also be known as 560 CFOS Mercury Wednesday. 560 CFOS was a huge part of the Mercurys when they were running by broadcasting and promoting games and this season will be no different. For Wednesday games only, fans can purchase tickets in Section “Z” for just $5.60 and have the opportunity to win great prizes throughout the year.
The Mercurys operated from 1946-1957, winning the Canadian Sr. Mens Hockey Championship (The Allan Cup) in 1950-51 and produced many players who either had strong local ties at that time or created those ties while playing here in Owen Sound. Many of the Attacks year end awards are named after past Mercury players and still presented by their family members.
The game worn jerseys from the 2010-2011 season will be auctioned off throughout the season in a similar format to the Warm-Up jersey auction that has taken place the past few years and replica jerseys will be sold in the Attack Shack Merchandise Shop beginning Tuesday, August 17th after a public unveiling. Season Ticket Holders will have a special two-week windrow, beginning August 3rd to Pre-orders their very own Mercury Jersey. Orders can be placed by calling the Attack office at (519) 371-7452 or stopping in. There will only be 100 replica jerseys available to the public.
“This is the first time the Attack have worn a third jersey and I know many of the fans and also the players are very excited about it. We cant wait for the guys to hit the ice on September 25th,” said Fisher.
