Saugeen Shores Council has some new information to consider concerning Centennial Pool.
Director of Community Services Mike Myatt says he’s learned that the Bluewater District School Board is moving forward with renovations to Saugeen District Secondary School, instead of building a new school.
Myatt says the Board passed a resolution in May to seek funding for the project and pending approval the renovations could take place in 2011 or 2012.
He says the news will be considered in the town’s decision about what to do with Centennial Pool, which is at the high school but owned by the municipality.
Myatt says a pool study conducted for the town by Monteith Brown Planning Consultants suggested that if the Board decided on renovations at the high school, then Council should consider renovating the pool at a cost of about 3 million dollars.
The other options would be to build an addition to the Plex for about 10 million, or build a stand-alone aquatic facility again for about 10 million.
Myatt says this development is something that council needs to be aware of and in the next few months staff will begin looking at the options.
He says they will probably come back to Council in the fall.
